VA - Essential Gothic Masters

Good, yes. But essential? Sigh-- "Essential Gothic Masters" fails to deliver on the promise of a four disc set encompassing the many gothic rock masters, as per its title, as of the date of its distribution (2001). Instead, it lazily houses a two disc compilation of Alien Sex Fiend b-sides and rarities ("Fiend at the Controls"), a Christian Death studio album ("Insanus, Ultio, Prodito, Misericoridiaque"), and a rather paltry compilation of acts that are flirting nearly exclusively with darkwave and new wave, rather than goth ("Future Wave"*)-- making it a nearly impertinent addition to this box set. Or, at least the latter compilation is in need of more of the "gothic masters"  to substantiate its claims containing as much.

That said, if you're a great fan of Alien Sex Fiend and post-1994 Christian Death (with Rozz, of course), then this may not be a bad venture for you.

My feeling is that this box set was full of things that weren't going to sell so well on their own; hence, the focus on grandeur in its marketing.

No wonder it is a limited edition set.

*= Is that title supposed to be ironic-- what with it containing a track as seasoned and, dare I say, classic, as Gary Numan's "Are 'Friends' Electric?"???

I've been itching to share things I found hard to find. Some don't have the luster of others, but I will pry anything that has the slightest hint of noir glitter from the grasp of Exclusivity and make an offering to the Cybergod*!

*= that is, you, the reader.

Y se los dejo dicho desde ahora, hablo "Castellano Con Barreras", jajaja.

Post-Script- I won't take requests, but I will take suggestions.
